Xu Shaofa is highly regarded internationally as one of the most influential sports figures in the history of table tennis. China's state-owned CCTV named him one of the Top 5 Most Influential People in Sports of All-Time

As a player, Xu Shaofa is best known for having shook the sport by unveiling the high-toss serve and spin (an essential technique widely used to this date) at the World Championships in 1975.

From 1982 - 1991, Xu Shaofa was the Head Coach of the Chinese National Table Tennis Team.  Mr. Xu led the Chinese to their first Olympic win in 1984, marking the beginning of the golden era of table tennis.  Before his retirement, Xu Shaofa quietly recruited a group of promising junior players to introduce a new (and controversial) form of play.  It was using these techniques developed during their formative years that Liu Guoliang and Kong Linghui became top players in the world in subsequentyears.

Since then, Xu Shaofa has made it his life's mission to promote and develop the the sport, both in front and behind the scenes.  He founded the most successful televised table tennis championship series in in China and also introduced the concept of sports agents for the first time in the 1990's.
